In Malone (again) on Friday afternoon, Canton 9, Franklin Academy 7 (8 innings)
The Canton Varsity Softball team traveled to Malone for the second day in a row to finish up a game that was started on Thursday but was called because of rain and poor field conditions after three batters. This was the final game for the Bears who finished up with a 9-7 victory and earned a share of the Central Division League title.
The win did not come without any excitement when Canton coughed up a five run lead in the bottom of the seventh. In the eighth the Bears scraped across two runs to secure the come from behind win in the season finale.
“We had a nice cushion in the 7th inning but made a couple mental errors along with a call that did not go our way to let them back in the game. I was impressed though how we got our focus back and scored again in the eighth. We struggled as a team picking up hits today so we really had to manufacture our runs today,” stated Coach Wentworth.
Canton only collected four team hits in the game; two by Chloe Baxter (3 RBI) and two by Jenna Larrabee. Tessa Alguire picked up the win striking out seven.
The Bears will host the winner of the Salmon River vs Potsdam game on Tuesday at 5:00 in the second round of the class “B’ play offs.
