Olmstead Drives In Winning Run For Bears

In Canton last Friday afternoon, Canton 5, SLC 4

The Canton Golden Bears hosted one of Section X’s top Softball programs on Friday afternoon in the St. Lawrence Central Larries. SLC took a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Bears loaded the bases with one out when Faith Christy scored on a wild pitch and then Shaylee Olmstead drove in the winning run with a single up the middle.

Tessa Alguire earned the win in the circle striking out eight while also going 5-5 at the plate with a double and a triple. Olmstead also had two hits in the game. Elle White also smacked a two RBI double in the sixth to start the Bears comeback.

“That was a fun game and a good team win,” said Coach Mike Wentworth. “Our defense was solid today and we seemed to escape a lot of traffic on the bases today. I knew after Elle’s double in the sixth that we had a shot if we could get back to the top of the order. The girls have been working hard so it was nice to see positive results.”

The Bears will travel to Salmon River on Monday for a central league match up. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30.
