Modified Spring Track Season is Underway, Bears Place First

On Friday, April 19th, the Canton modified track team participated in the first meet of the season. Despite the cold and rainy conditions, the athletes were enthusiastic and crafted a strong start to their season. At this home meet to open the season, Canton competed against Madrid-Wadington, Norwood-Norfolk, and Tupper Lake. Both the Canton boys team and girls team placed first overall.

Starting off the meet was the girls 55 meter hurdles. In first place was Mary Abuhassan, with a time of 12 seconds. Parker Gallagher placed second with a time of 12.10 seconds.

John Mtichell placed first in the boys 55 meter hurdles with a time of 12.40 seconds.

In the girls 200 meter dash, Sola Oakley placed second with a time of 33.10 seconds. In fourth place was Melanie Ward with a time of 33.50 seconds. Ella Bradish-Hayes placed eighth with a time of 34.30 seconds. With a time of 34.60 seconds was Parker Gallagher, placing tenth. JessieJean Coffin placed 12th with a time of 36.10 seconds. Isis Casserly placed 15th with a time of 40 seconds. 

In the boys 200 meter dash, Carson White placed fourth, running the race in 33.90 seconds. Cedric Harper placed sixth with a time of 34.50 seconds. Parker Smith placed seventh with a time of 34.90 seconds. In 11th place was Elijah Williams, with a time of 38 seconds. Ayden Hoyt ran the race in 38.40 seconds, placing 12th.

Competing in the girls 1500 meter run was Jillian Richarson and Sophia Choi. Jillian placed first with a time of 6:19 and Sophia placed third with a time of 6:59.

Mary Abuhassan placed first in the girls 100 meter dash with a time of 15.40 seconds. In third place was Sola Oakley with a time of 15.70 seconds. Elizabeth Metcalf placed fourth with a time of 16.10 seconds. Running a time of 16.20 seconds was Parker Gallagher, placing fifth. Addison Ragan and Melanie Ward tied for tenth with times of 17 seconds. Ella Bradish-Hayes placed 18th with a time of 18.60 seconds.

In the boys 100, John Mitchell placed first with a time of 15 seconds. Andrew Downing placed second with a time of 15.70 seconds. Placing fifth was Finn O’Brien with a time of 16.30 seconds. Zachary Lyndaker placed seventh with a time of 16.70 seconds. Parker Smith ran the race in 17.10 seconds, placing eighth. Ayden Hoyt placed 11th with a time of 18.60 seconds. Elijah Williams placed 16th with a time of 19.10 seconds.

Elijah Williams placed second in the boys 400 with a time of 1:25.

In the girls 800 meter run, Dilek Eissenstat placed second with a time of 3:07. Addison Ragan placed third, running a 3:15. Jillian Richardson ran a 3:21, placing fourth.

Cedric Harper placed first in the boys 800 meters with a time of 3:00. Carson White placed third with a time of 3:05.

There were two Canton girls 4×100 relay teams. One placed first with a time of 1:03. The other placed second with a time of 1:07.

In the boys 4×100, the Canton team placed first.

In the girls shot put, Isis Casserly placed third, throwing a distance of 16 ft 11 in. JessieJean Coffin placed fourth with a distance of 16 ft 6 in.

John Mitchell placed third in discus with a distance of 35 ft 6 in.

In the girls long jump, Mary Abuhassan placed first with a jump of 12 ft 4 in. Elizabeth Metcalf placed third, jumping 10 ft 5 in. In fourth was Melanie Ward, jumping 10 ft 3 in. Jumping 8 ft 7 in was Ella Bradish-Hayes, placing 11th. Sophia Choi placed 14th with a jump of 7 ft 9 in.

In boys long jump, Carson White placed fourth with a jump of 10 ft 5 in. Zachary Lyndaker jumped 9 ft 7 in, placing eighth.

In the girls triple jump, Elizabeth Metcalf placed second with a distance of 21 ft 8 in.

Zachary Lyndaker placed first in boys triple jump with a distance of 22 ft 10 in.

Finn O’Brien placed first in the boys high jump with a height of 4 ft 2 in. John Mitchell placed second with a height of 3 ft 10 in. In third was Carson White, with a height of 3 ft 8 in. Ayden Hoyt placed fifth with a height of 3 ft 6 in.

In the mixed 1200 sprint medley relay, two Canton teams competed. One placed first with a time of 3:54 and the other placed second with a time of 3:58.

The next meet will take place on Friday, April 26th at Malone. The athletes are looking forward to competing again. Thanks to Coach Lyndaker for a great start to the season.
