Boys Varsity Hockey Win 2 of 3 Games In Section X Play

St. Lawrence Central 2, Canton 1

The Golden Bears lost just their third Section X game this past week 1-2, despite a strong push in the final minutes.

The first period consisted of back and fourth rushes from each team, ultimately leading to defensive stops from each team. This led to a 0-0 deadlock going into intermission.

The second period found more offense for both teams, with SLC finding the back of the net for the first goal of the game. The brown and gold were left searching for answers now down by a goal going into the final period.

The Larries of St. Lawrence central would strike again to double their lead mid-way through the third period. Canton responded later, with a goal from Drew Blevins with just 29 seconds remaining. This late surge was not enough to support a comeback as time ran out.

The first period started off with loads of offensive chances for Canton, including a first career goal by defender Carter Premo. The Sandstoners weren’t going to go down that easy as they tallied one of their own to tie the game up moments later.

In the second period the flood gates really opened up, as Drew Blevins tallied a goal and Garrit Palmer would as well give Canton the lead. Potsdam eventually snuck another one past the Canton goalie to cut the lead in half.

The final period saw Canton add to their lead with a goal by Garritt Palmer for his second of the game. Potsdam’s Jack Pitts then found the back of the net, but the game ended in a 4-3 win for Canton on Senior night.

The Islanders would find themselves a goal early in the first period off of a tip shot out front. Canton was behind, and looking for a spark early on.

Their spark came minutes later as Freshman Owen Logan tallied his first goal for the brown and gold. This evened out the score going into the second stanza.

After a few undisciplined plays by the Islanders, The Golden Bears found themselves on the power play midway through the second. Owen Logan found himself a power play goal to give Canton their first lead of the game.

The third period started off the same way with a power play opportunity for Canton. Owen Logan found the back of the net yet again to give the Bears a 3-1 lead and his first career hat trick for the skilled forward.

Brandon O’shea would then score one more goal for Canton to propel them to an impressive 4-1 win of The Thousand Island Islanders.
