The JV Boys basketball team lost a tough road game to the Massena Raiders last evening by a score of 40-33. A fast start by the Bears saw the home team respond late in the first quarter as the Raiders managed to work their way back to a three point deficit at the end of the first quarter, trailing the Bears 13-10. The second quarter resumed as both teams struggled to defeat the other team’s defense. The Bears lost the second quarter 8-5 which saw the game tied at the half at 18 apiece.

Massena opened the second half with 6 unanswered points which the Bears could never manage to close for the remainder of the game. Coach Porter commented, “This one stings. Our guys have worked very hard and the effort and energy were there tonight. When this team decides to make every possession count and better manage our own turnovers, I think we will better position ourselves to win these close contests.

Canton saw scoring from Parker Hurlbut who carried the Bears with 11 points. Will Andes scored 7 as Owen Matthews (5), Hayden Towle (4), Dan Richardson (2), Dan O’Neill (2), and Parker Ames (2) rounded out the scoring for the Bears.

Canton is on the road Thursday as they face a well coached and much improved OFA team. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30.
