Boy’s Indoor Track Win Second Meet

On Friday, January 19, the section met for the fifth Friday night meet at St. Lawrence’s indoor track. The Canton boys’ team took their second win of the season with 82 points, winning by 8 points after losing last week by only 2.5. Potsdam scored in second with 74 points, and Massena took third only a half point behind, with 73.5. In the girl’s scores, Potsdam took first by a wide margin, with 123 points, followed by Franklin Academy with 87. Canton remained on the podium with 69.5 points.

The Canton boys continued their 4×800 meter relay streak for the fifth week in a row, this time with an entirely different lineup from last week. The Bears finished in 9:02.84 with a team of Daniel Armendariz-Huang, Aiden Rodriguez-Doyle, Noah Gendebein, and Rylan Lee-Powell. Franklin Academy won the girl’s 4×800 in 10:48.56, with a team of Ellie Leroy, Katrina Winters, Tye Lawrence, and Emily Perham, but Canton’s team (Hannah Ames, Violet Foster, Bennett Schmitt, Salma Moumen) was close behind in 10:56.93. Gouverneur Senior Vincent Thomas won the boy’s 60-yard dash in 7.36, and Section Record holder Makenna Manson from Salmon River won the 60 in 8.28. Trystan Biller from Ogdensburg won the boy’s 60-meter hurdles in 9.71, and Mackenzie Adams from Indian River won the girl’s 60-meter hurdles in 10.59.

Norwood-Norfolk’s Dominic Fiacco won the 1600-meter run in 4:46.06, but Canton took the next three spots with Gendebein (4:59.70), Lucas Watts (4:59.90), and Adam Sabatini (5:04.71). Grace McClane from Franklin Academy won the 1500-meter run in 5:16.62. Franklin Academy won the boy’s 4×200-meter relay (1:42.43), and Potsdam won the girl’s 4×200-meter relay (1:56.69). Malone won both 600-meter runs; Dylan Keating in 1:30.49 and Adyson King in 1:39.42. 

Fiacco won the 3200 in 10:13.01, Rodriguez-Doyle placed third in 10:29.09, and Canton took first and second in the 3000-meter run with Moumen (11:41.93) and Johanna Tupper (12:39.68). Liam Miller-Lynch from Norwood won the boy’s 300-meter dash in 38.93, and King won the girl’s 300-meter dash in 43.80. Fiacco won the boy’s 1000-meter run in 2:51.34, and like the 1600, Canton filled in the next three spots, with Lee-Powell (2:51.37), Armendariz-Huang (2:51.61) and Kaden Worthley (3:03.80). Allie Snell from Norwood-Norfolk won the girl’s 1000-meter dash in 3:26.07, followed by Schmitt from Canton in 3:27.27. Potsdam won the boy’s 4×400-meter relay in 4:02.61 and the girl’s relay again in 4:30.85. The Canton boy’s team came in second in 4:02.73 (Lee-Powell, Rodriguez-Doyle, Sabatini, and Truman Gendebein).

Jeremyiah Ewing from Indian River won the boy’s high jump again with a jump of 5-06.00, and Audrey Gaines from Gouverneur won the girl’s high jump with a jump of 5-02.00. Sabatini placed third with a jump of 5-04.00, and Aurora Casserly (Canton) also placed third with a jump of 4-04.00. Lindy Betrus from Potsdam won the long jump and the triple jump with jumps of 15-11.00 and 34-10.50, Thomas Vincent won the long jump with a jump of 18-00.75, and Jordan Ashley won the triple jump with a jump of 36-09.00. Owen Siebels from Gouverneur won the boy’s shotput with a throw of 39-01.00, and Adams from Indian River won the girl’s shotput with a throw of 30-01.50.
