On January 13, the Canton modified track team competed at SUNY Potsdam against teams from Potsdam, Gouverneur, Massena, Malone, Indian River, Tupper Lake, and Norwood Norfolk. The athletes competed well, with the boys placing second overall and the girls placing third.
The girls 4×320 relay team placed fourth with a total time of 4:34.
In the boys 50 meter dash, Dayshawn James placed first with a time of 6.80 seconds. Finn O’Brein and John Mitchell tied for sixth, both running the race in 7.80 seconds. Malachi Conant placed 11th with a time of 8.10 seconds.
In the girls 50 meter dash, Sola Oakley placed second with a time of 7.10. In third place was Mary Abuhassen, running the race in 7.60 seconds. Ella Bradish-Hayes and Elizabeth Metcalf tied for eighth, both with a time of 8.10 seconds. JessieJean Coffin placed 17th with a time of 8.60 seconds. With a time of 8.90 seconds was Gabby Pecola, placing 21st.
Parker Gallagher placed fourth in the 50 meter hurdles, completing the race in 10.60 seconds.
In first place in the boys 160 meter dash was Dayshwn James with a time of 22.50 seconds. John Mitchell placed sixth with a time of 25.70 seconds. Cedric Harper ran the race in 29.20 seconds, placing tenth.
In the girls 160, Mary Abuhassen placed second with a time of 24.60 seconds. Ella Bradish-Hayes placed 11th with a time of 26.70 seconds. In 24th was JessieJean Coffin with a time of 28.90 seconds. With a time of 29.20 seconds was Dilek Eissenstat, placing 27th.
In the boys 320 meter dash, Parker Smith placed fourth with a time of 1:01.50. Right behind was Cedric Harper, coming in fifth with a time of 1:01.60.
In the girls 320 meter dash, Dilek Eissenstat placed eighth with a time of 1:01. Parker Gallagher ran the race in 1:04, placing 11th. In 17th was Isis Casserly, running the race in 1:11.
Cedric Harper placed fifth in the boys 800 meter run with a time of 2:59. Zachary Lyndaker ran the race in 3:00 and placed sixth.
In the girls 800, Jillian Richardson placed third with a time of 3:19. Addison Ragan placed fourth with a time of 3:33. In eighth was Ashlan Foster, running a 3:53.
The Canton boys placed second in the 4×160 relay with a total time of 1:46.
Three girls teams competed in the 4×160 relay, coming in first, sixth, and seventh.
In the boys high jump, Dayshawn James placed first with a height of 4 ft 6 in. Zachary Lyndaker jumped 4 ft, placing fourth. In sixth place was Malachi Conant, with a height of 3 ft 10 in. Finn O’Brien placed ninth, clearing a height of 3 ft 6 in.
In the girls shot put, Gabby Pecola placed 11th, throwing a distance of 15 ft 3 in. Isis Casserly placed 16th, with a distance of 13 ft 6 in.
The athletes are looking forward to their next meet at the SLU fieldhouse on January 20th.
