Canton Boys Hockey Falls Short Versus Ithaca

Ithaca 3, Canton 2

After a short break in the schedule, Canton looked to come out strong in their first game back. The first period started with offensive pressure from both teams and some spectacular saves from each goaltender. Ithaca found themselves on the power play 10 minutes into the first period. They capitalized on the man advantage to take an early lead. Minutes later, Canton Senior Drew Blevins found the back of the net off a cross-crease pass from Reid Doyle. The Brown and Gold went into intermission tied.

The second period started out with a quick goal by Ithaca, leaving Canton to respond. The Golden Bears created multiple scoring chances later in the second, but after a swift breakout, Ithaca netted a goal to extend their lead to two. The clock ran down on the second period and Canton was down 3-1 going into the third.

The third period started off hot for Canton, peppering the Ithaca goaltender and trying to force mistakes. No matter what the Brown and Gold did though, Ithaca shut it down. This was until Drew Blevins found a rebound out front and buried it home to cut the lead in half. Ultimately, this wasn’t enough for Canton as Ithaca’s goalie made countless stops in the final minutes to lead his team to victory.
