This Friday, December 15, the Golden Bears had their second meet of the season at the SLU indoor track. Canton raced against Potsdam, Gouverneur, Salmon River, Franklin Academy, Ogdensburg, Massena, Norwood-Norfolk, Brushton-Moira, and Indian River.
In the girl’s 60-meter dash, Makenna Manson from Salmon River took first once again, with a time of 8.15. Gouverneur’s Thomas Vincent took first for the boys in 7.27.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Canton senior Stella Shipman took first again in 10.63 for the girls, and Xaiden Morey from Potsdam placed first for the boys in 10.37.
Adyson King from Franklin Academy won the girl’s 300-meter dash in 42.92, and Roje Richards won the boy’s 300 in 38.17.
King also won the 600-meter in 1:41.66, and Dylan Keating from Franklin Academy won the boy’s 600-meter in 1:28.83. Canton’s Noah Gendebien placed second in 1:32.52.
In the 1000-meter Grace McClain from Franklin Academy won in 3:24.99, and Canton’s Bennett Schmitt placed second in 3:26.01. Canton boys swept the top three, with Noah Gendebien in first (3:02.03), Kaden Worthley in second (3:05.13), and Lucas Watts in third (3:07.24).
In the girl’s 1500 Madison Carista from Norwood-Norfolk took first in 5:14.16, and Canton’s Bennett Schmitt placed third in 5:20.52.
In the boys’ 1600 Norwood-Norfolk’s Dominic Fiacco won in 4:56.87, Canton’s Aiden Rodriguez-Doyle placed second (4:59.93), and Canton’s Rylan Lee-Powell placed third (5:06.46).
Canton’s Salma Moumen won the girl’s 3000 in 11:45.11, and Fiacco won the 3200 in 10:30.49.
Indian River won the girl’s 4×200, and Massena won the boy’s 4×200.
Potsdam won the girl’s 4×400, and the Canton team of Lee-Powell, Gendebien, Rodriguez-Doyle, and Caleb Wilkinson won the boy’s 4×400.
The girl’s 4×800 win went to Norwood-Norfolk, and the Canton boy’s 4×800 team of Lee-Powell, Worthley, Rodriguez-Doyle, and Watts won the boy’s race.
Gouverneur’s Audrey Gaines won the High Jump with a mark of 5-00.00, Lindy Betrus from Potsdam won the Long Jump and Triple Jump with jumps of 16-01.50 and 34-00.75, and Shipman placed second in the Triple Jump in 30-10.25.
Morey won the boy’s High Jump with a mark of 5-04.00, Ayden Debose won the Long Jump with a distance of 17-08.00, and Mason Waite won the Triple Jump with a distance of 35-03.50.
Lola Buckley won the girl’s shot put with a mark of 31-03.00, and Owen Siebels won the boy’s shot put with a mark of 41-07.00.
Potsdam’s girls team won the meet with 101 points, followed by Franklin Academy (90.5) and Canton (86).
The Canton boy’s took their first win in years, with 82 points, followed by Massena with 75.5 and Norwood-Norfolk with 72.
