Modified Indoor Track Kicks Off Season

On December 10, the Canton modified track team, coached by Coach Lyndaker and Coach Guilfoil, participated in their first exciting meet of the season.

The team of seventh and eighth graders were well-represented, with athletes in almost every event. The Bears competed against Potsdam, Ogdensburg, Massena, Malone, Tupper Lake, Indian River, Norwood-Norfolk, and Gouverneur.

In first place in the boys 50-meter dash with a time of 6.80 seconds was Canton’s Dayshawn James. John Mitchell placed seventh with a time of 7.80 seconds. Malachi Conant came 10th with a time of 8.00 seconds. In 12th place was Finn O’Brien, running the 50 meters in 8.30 seconds.

On the girls side, Parker Gallagher and Sola Oakley tied for sixth with times of 8.00 seconds. Ella Bradish-Hayes came 16th with a time of 8.50 seconds. Elizabeth Metcalf came 32nd with a time of 9.30 seconds.

In the 50 meter hurdles, Ace Cuthbert came ninth with a time of 12.50 seconds.

Zachary Lyndaker came seventh in the 160 meter dash with a time of 27.10 seconds. Elijah Williams came 15th with a time of 32 seconds.

The girls 160 meter dash had over 40 competitors. Mary Abuhassen placed sixth with a time of 26.10 seconds. Dilek Eissenstat came 23rd with a time of 29.70 seconds. In 26th was Rori Ballard, running the race in 30.30 seconds. Running the 160 meters in 30.90 seconds was Gabby Pecola, coming 32nd. Ace Cuthbert came 35th with a time of 31.50 seconds.

In the boys 320 meter dash was Elijah Williams, running a 1:09 minute race. He placed 11th.

Two Canton athletes participated in both the boys and girls 800 meter dash. Zachary Lyndaker came eighth with a time of 3:08. Daniel Noble placed 10th with a time of 3:26.

In the girls 800, Addison Ragan placed fourth with a time of 3:24. In fifth place was Jillian Richardson with a time of 3:29.

In the 4×160 meter relay, the Canton boys placed third, running the race with a total time of 1:53. There were two girls teams, with one coming sixth and the other eighth.

In the boys high jump, Dayshawn James placed first with a height of 4ft, 10in. Finn O’Brien cleared 4ft, coming seventh. Zachary Lyndaker placed 11th with a height of 3ft, 10in.

In the boys shot put, Elijah Williams placed 16th with a throw of 12ft, 1in.

In the girls shot put, Isis Casserly came seventh, throwing 16ft, 9in. Ace Cuthbert threw 15ft, 6in, coming 11th. In 12th place was Gabby Pecola, throwing 15ft, 5in.

The track and field athletes were pleased with their results and are looking forward to their next meet on December 16th.
