Canton 63, Norwood-Norfolk 2
After starting the season with a pair of highly competitive non-conference games, the Canton varsity boys basketball team headed to Norwood-Norfolk for their conference opener in search of their first win of the season.
The Golden Bears made quick work of the shorthanded Flyers, who had just seven players dressed for the contest. Canton had contributions from its entire roster; 12 players recorded points, eight players combined for 17 assists on 23 made baskets, and Canton tallied 28 steals as they cruised to the win.
Senior point guard Ryan Jones once again led the Golden Bears’ offense with 16 points, six assists and six steals in limited minutes. Jones was the only player to record double digits in points, as Canton distributed the ball to every player on the floor.
Zadok Roiger scored nine points and added three steals, while Talan Green, Paul Redfern and Lucas Howie each scored six. Aidan Richardson scored five points and had a game-high six rebounds. Jackson Ames made both of his shots for four points, while Ethan Francey and Charlie Todd both scored three. Jake Backus scored two points and had four steals, while Connor Miller also chipped in two points. John Wilcox made one free throw for one point.
Oliver Dollman had five rebounds and three assists, while Griffin Scafidi-McGuire snagged one board in the winning effort for the Bears.
Canton, now 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the NAC Central division, will travel to Franklin County to face the Malone Huskies on Friday night.
