Canton Girls Varsity Soccer Falls Short Versus Route Eleven Rival, Potsdam

Tuesday, Oct. 24 – Potsdam 1, Canton 0

The Golden Bears faced off against their longstanding rival last Tuesday in the first round of Section X playoffs. Canton was looking to complete the season sweep and take down the Potsdam Sandstoners at home.

The game started with several defensive stops by each team and countless saves by both goaltenders. The brown and gold maintained offensive pressure for the majority of the game and peppered the Potsdam goalie with more 20 shots in the first 45 minuets.

The second half started with a similar theme as Canton kept the pedal to the metal and pestered the Sandstoners defensive end.

“We had multiple shots on goal but failed to succeed. We also worked hard and held our constant force against them,” said freshman Reagan Kiah on her team’s performance on Tuesday.

The game eventually went into overtime and Potsdam got the last laugh with a game winning goal two minutes in. It was a tough loss for the brown and gold, but a spectacular season for them and something to be proud of.
