This week the Bears Cross Country teams raced their last meet of the regular season in Brushton-Moira against Brushton and Malone. Both teams won easily on the flat course even though they still felt tired from Burnt Hills a few days earlier.

The Girl’s race was led by sophomore Bennett Schmitt and freshman Ori Casserly. Casserly placed first in 21:34, and Schmitt placed second in the same time. Tye Lawrence from Malone placed third with a time of 22:14. Canton’s third runner was junior Violet Foster who placed eighth in 24:33, junior Lorelei Harper finished 11th in 26:35, and sophomore Olivia White placed 13th in 26:40. Canton beat Malone 25 points to 30 and beat Brushton-Moira 25 to 30 as well. Malone beat Brushton-Moira 24-31. The girl’s team finished the regular season second in the section, only losing to Norwood-Norfolk.
Canton’s Boys team received their second perfect score of the season, placing their five scores in places one through five. Canton’s first four runners across the line were juniors Rylan-Lee Powell, Aiden Rodriguez-Doyle, Kaden Worthley, and Lucas Watts. Sophomore Adam Sabatini placed fifth. The top five times were 17:36, 17:37, 17:42, 17:47, and 18:19. This puts the 1-5 split at 43 seconds, significantly lower than their previous best of 1:07. The boys beat Malone 15 to 41, and Brushton-Moira 15 to 43. Malone beat Brushton-Moira 19 to 40. The boy’s team finished their regular season undefeated, going into the Championship season hoping to win the section and advance to states as a team.
