Canton 4, Norwood-Norfolk 1
The Golden Bears completed their season sweep versus the Norwood-Norfolk Flyers in an out-of-town match up. Canton came off a hot past week with two wins versus Section X opponents. The Brown and Gold kept their momentum with a quick strike as Sophomore Kalin Backus found the back of the net to open up the scoring.
Canton maintained pressure and buried another goal minutes later from skillful senior Stella Shipman. The Golden Bears marched directly back down the field in meticulous fashion capping off the play with a goal by striker Emily Estabrooks. Sara Aldous wrapped up the scoring with one last goal that helped thrust Canton to victory past the Flyers.
The defense for the Golden Bears really came into play that night with countless clutch stops and many forced turnovers. Goaltender Calie Tebo made numerous saves for her team which was a huge contribution to the well-fought win.
Canton 1, Potsdam 0
This was not just your typical Thursday night matchup between two section ten powerhouses; this was your Route 11 rivalry, head-to-head, game of the week. With much more than just pride on the line, the Brown and Gold understood what needed to be done in order to return home with the win and it was shown on Thursday evening.
Playing under the lights is a feeling like no other. On display in front of hundreds, Canton needed to find their footing and take down their long time rival. And, that is just what Coach Kiah and the rest of his squad did. After much back and forth play from these two teams, the game was sent into overtime. This is what separates the good teams from the great teams. Not wasting any time, the Golden Bears flooded Potsdam’s defensive zone and applied pressure to their defense. Emily Estabrooks took a touch out to the left then cut back in with a swift right foot. She then drew back and sniped the game winning goal for the Brown and Gold.
“This game had playoff energy from the get-go. We knew we would have to play them in the playoffs so we wanted to set a tone. I had complete trust in my girls and they sure didn’t disappoint,” said head coach Greg Kiah regarding his team’s performance this past Thursday.
Massena 1, Canton 0
Coming off of the biggest game of Canton’s season, the Golden Bears found themselves facing off against their Class A opponent. The Brown and Gold mustered up their strongest defensive counter attack which prevailed for the majority of the game. Massena eventually found a weakness in the defensive line and pounced on it, scoring the only goal of the game. This goal propelled the Red Raiders to victory.
Malone 3, Canton 0
On a Monday evening match up, Canton sought revenge on The Malone Huskies. The many attacks that were brought on by the Golden Bears unfortunately were insufficient as they couldn’t put a single goal past the Muskie’s goaltender. After a tough first goal off a penalty shot, Canton tried to counter but didn’t capitalize on any chances. The Brown and Gold will host their senior night game Wednesday at 4:30 versus OFA in Canton.
