Canton 0, Messena 0
The Canton Golden Bears go into a tough matchup versus the Raiders of Massena. The Raiders come into Monday’s game outscoring their opponents 31-2 this season. Canton chose to ignore the stats and just play the game. This proved to be a strategic advantage as the Bears tied Massena with zero goals against.
Goaltender Calie Tebo made a handful of clutch saves to keep the game at a stand still. Not only was the goal tending great, but all around the Bears were just the dominant team. Canton has been an offensive team this year, but having a very strong defensive game speaks to the volume of this roster.
Malone 1, Canton 0
On a brisk fall evening in Canton, the Golden Bears kicked off against Malone under the lights. After a few slow, first minutes, Canton found their stride with a couple shots on goal. The Bears maintained pressure and although they were unable to find the back of the net in the first half, they still held out until halftime with the score tied at zero.
Canton then took the field for the second half and the aggressiveness on both sides was heightened. After a familiar scoreless start, Malone found themselves with an opportunity to apply pressure. The Huskies striker placed a ball just beyond the outstretched hands of Canton’s goaltender Calie Tebo to go up by one. Despite a few valiant attempts to tie the game up, Canton was not able to connect. The Golden Bears ended up losing 1-0, but took away valuable lessons both offensively and defensively.
Canton 1, Ogdensburg 0
Canton looked to bounce back and respond to Friday night’s loss to Malone with a match up versus Ogdensburg. The game started with the Bears dominating both sides of the ball. The Golden Bear offense took over the game and scored a quick goal in the second half by, you guessed it, Stella Shipman.
“We were aggressive from the start and everyone communicated well,” Shipman said. “The defense made excellent passes over the midfielders to the forwards. This led to many chances to score. Emily Estabrooks assisted me and I scored. We had great passes to each other and at one point we just gave good passes instead of trying to score.”
The Golden Bears will now face off against Potsdam on 9/28/23 at Canton.
