Canton 2, Salmon River 1
Canton opened their regular season up against Salmon River for their first game of the season. After a few back and fourth plays in the first half Golden Bears senior Stella Shipman buried a goal from 20 yards out.
After a fairly quiet first half, the brown and gold went into halftime with a one-goal lead.
Canton takes the field for the second half with a new sense of passion as skilled forward Emily Estabrooks scored on a breakaway. With two minutes to go the Shamrocks score a goal deflected off the goalkeepers gloves. This signaled Cantons to up the aggressiveness.
“As the game continued the team had to focus on two-touch and back passes to be able to maintain possession of the ball,” Shipman said after the game. This was shown as the Bears won the game and goalie Callie Tebo made nine saves.
Canton 5, Norwood-Norfolk 0
As the sun started to set Canton took the field for a Monday night match up versus the Flyers on Sept. 11.
Minutes into the game Estabrooks scored a goal to set the tone.
After the first goal Canton looked to double their lead as a Norwood defender turned the ball over in the box and forward Ella Mousaw was there to net the second goal of the half.
After a few words of wisdom by Head Coach Greg Kiah, Canton became more truculent as Stella Shipman scored a goal for her second game in a row. Two goals were then followed by Sarah Aldous and Molly Prati, respectfully.
The Golden Bears finish the week with a perfect 2-0 record in conference play. Canton will play this Wednesday versus Gouverneur at 4:30 p.m.
