Aug. 6 – Canton 6, Ogdensburg Pepsi 0
The Canton Men’s league summer soccer team, sponsored by Seaway Valley Prevention Council, Canton Seacomm and The Stadium Sports Bar, wrapped up their regular season with a 2-0 victory at Harrisville on Thursday night, Aug. 3. The boys were fired up and rolling into the playoffs with lots of confidence.
The boys in red would look to host their first playoff game of the summer against the Ogdensburg Pepsi team, who they had beaten twice before in the regular season. Pepsi would be out for revenge after being shutout in both previous games.
But Canton would come out firing once again. Just 10 minutes into the first half, Canton forward Holden Woods would score first off an assist from Travis Jordan.
Teagan Jordan would net one shortly after off a pass from Francesco Palumbo.
A few minutes later, Kevin Ramsin would convert for his first of the season after receiving a through ball from Travis Jordan. Canton would go into the halftime break up 3-0 and dominating much of the game.
To start the second half, Canton would convert again, this time off the foot of Karson Larose on a breakaway pass from Jordan for the 4-0 lead.
The boys in red would go onto finish the game with two more goals, one more from Holden Woods, and one from Nate Aldous. Assists were given to Ty Jacobs and Lleyton Ladue. Canton was in control from start to finish and ended up preserving the 6-0 shutout victory off the goalkeeping from Sam Martin.
Fellow Canton alumnus and community member, Rico Dobbs was interviewed after the game and stated “I love being able to come and watch these games. They are so entertaining, and it’s some of the best soccer you could watch. They get pretty competitive and sometimes heated, it makes it for a fun game as a spectator. Shoutout to THE BOYS IN RED!”
Canton will look to keep things rolling as they move onto the semi-finals of the playoffs, and will travel to Hogansburg Generations Park in a rematch of last year’s title game vs Salmon River. The showdown is Wednesday, Aug. 9 at 5:30 p.m.
Can the boys keep the momentum going, and make a return to the Championship once again? Find out Wednesday night!
