Fall Sports, Here Before You Know It!

It is hard to believe that July is now behind us and the fall sports season will be here before you know it. JV and Varsity sports begin on Monday, August 21st except for JV and Varsity football which begin on Saturday morning, August 19th at 8:00 am. Specific times, locations and coaches are listed below. Also, please see the capital project update and mandatory training for modified and new athletes included in the publication!

SIGN-UPS are still taking place!

There is still time to get signed up if you have not already done so. Simply follow the link here. It is a State Education Department Regulation that every student-athlete has a current physical examination form on file with the school nurse. PLEASE BE SURE THAT YOUR STUDENT HAS A CURRENT PHYSICAL EXAM ON FILE WITH NURSE CANDY BATES! As we get closer to the opening day, physician’s offices tend to get flooded with families getting this necessary requirement done in time to start. Athletes who do not start on time, subsequently miss games if they do not meet the minimum practice requirements.

Capital Project Update

The building renovation project is certainly well underway and the construction crews have done an immense amount of work this summer. As with any project, we are at the mercy of many variables such as concrete availability, product delivery and supply chain issues, as well as other unforeseen items out of our control. Given these obstacles the project which was once slated to be finished prior to the start of the school year does not look very promising. Teams will need to be prepared to not have use of locker room space or access to several parts of the building.

Future site of the outdoor concession stand behind the high school gymnasium.
Front of the building. Site of the new aquatics facility!

The turf project also looks to be completed sometime near the end of the fall season. This may mean that varsity teams which typically play a home and away game against an opponent, may be traveling to that opponent twice to complete their league schedules. The football teams did this during our last capital project when the track was being constructed. All JV and modified teams will play home games here on campus on the lower fields.

Retaining wall foundation next to the future artificial turf field.
Turf field drainage being constructed.

Our coaches will be apprised of the latest situation as we near the start of the season. We will do our best to keep the athletics community informed along the way. Regardless of the challenges one thing is for certain……we will start the year on time with student-athletes which are ready to go!!

Wednesday, August 30.

MANDATORY Athletics Orientation Meeting. This meeting is required for every modified student-athlete, as well as any student-athlete who is new to our program. A parent or guardian is required to attend as well. The meeting will cover a list of topics including, safety, program philosophy, code of conduct, academic eligibility, etc. We will begin promptly at 7pm in the H.C. Williams High School Auditorium and finish within one hour.

GO BEARS!!
