Canton Men’s League Soccer Tops Salmon River for Seventh Win

Canton 3, Salmon River (CKON) 2 – Sunday, July 23

The Canton men’s league summer soccer team sponsored by Seaway Valley Prevention Council, Canton Seacomm, and The Stadium Sports Bar is back on a winning streak once again. After their win on Sunday, Canton now has a record of 7-1-2 with 47 goals for and only 10 against.

The boys in red would defend their home field against league leaders Salmon River CKON 3-2 on Sunday evening. This was a rematch of the championship game last year, as both teams have tons of talent and skill to create quite the rivalry. The two teams tied earlier in the year 1-1 in Hogansburg.

Canton came out firing first with a goal scored by Tanner Bessette assisted by Lleyton Ladue. Ladue would dribble down the right side of the defense, force a cross into the middle of the box where Bessette would finish for his fifth goal of the summer season, and a 1-0 lead. Canton would go into the half up 1-0, because of stellar defending by the backline of Teagan Jordan, Kingsley Wesley, Chase Jacobs, and Nate Aldous. Shot stopper Hayden McBath would make three saves going into the halftime break.

Canton would come out hot again in the second half with a goal 10 minutes in from Myles Robinson. Robinson broke down the right wing off a feed from Bessette and would blast the ball into the bottom corner of the mesh for a 2-0 lead, and a crucial goal. CKON would get one goal back on a beautiful free kick goal from Kade Cook but it wouldn’t be enough.

Canton would go onto score again, this time from the penalty stripe. Jacob Oatman would convert the penalty for a 3-1 lead for Canton and ultimately the game winning goal. Salmon River CKON would score one more time to make it 3-2, but couldn’t find another to tie the game. Canton would go on to win their fourth straight game, and are now back in the fight for first place in the league.

“I love beating Salmon River CKON, they’re a tough team but we always find a way to win,” Oatman said after the contest. “These competitive games are the most fun for us players. I look forward to our rematch with Colton, and hopefully we can compete for first place. Time to go celebrate this win!”
