Wednesday, June 21 – Canton 7, Potsdam 1
The Canton Men’s League Summer Soccer team (Seaway Valley Prevention Council, Canton Seacomm, Stadium Sports Bar) took the field again this past week, this time against the rival Potsdam team. The game was played in the summer heat on the turf at SUNY Potsdam and ended in a 7-1 victory for Canton.
The game would start even. Potsdam would create a few chances that new Canton keeper Hayden McBath would put a stop to. McBath and the Canton defense including Teagen Jordan, Eric Shinnick, Jacob Oatman, Owen Hall, and Chase Jacobs would provide a backbone for Canton to build off. About 15 minutes into the first half, Canton winger Ty Jacobs (2G) would convert for the first goal of the game off an assist from Travis Jordan (3G 3A). Peyton Snell (5G 1A) would notch his fourth goal of the summer off a short feed from Eric Shinnick (1g 3A) to put Canton up 2-0 early in the first half. The boys in red would strike again just a few moments later, this time from Jordan off a goal mouth scramble after a corner kick from Shinnick. Potsdam would battle back to make it 3-1 just before the end of the half.
Canton continued their dominance into the second half of the game, tucking away 4 more goals to go on to finish with a 7-1 victory over Potsdam. Canton second-half goals were scored by Peyton Snell, and Ethan Francey (4G) struck three times to finish off the game with a hattrick. Goals were assisted by Eric Shinnick and Holden Woods (1G 2A). Canton has now strung together three wins to open the summer season and is looking for more. The boys in red have scored 17 goals for and have only allowed one against.
Canton will be back in action this time on Tuesday night at 8:15, under the lights in Hogansburg against the Salmon River team they matched up against in last year’s title game. This will be a battle of the unbeatens, to see who can come out on top of the league standings a quarter of the way through the season. Canton will also be playing back-to-back games, as they will be competing in South Colton at Swift field on Wednesday night at 6:30 against the Colton men’s team who is also unbeaten. Come out and show your support!
