In Canton at Saint Lawrence University on Thursday afternoon; Canton 5, Gouverneur 4
The Canton Golden Bears and the Gouverneur Wildcats squared off for the third time this season and this particular game did not lack for excitement! Canton had to battle back from a 3-0 and then a 4-1 deficit! Senior poise and leadership prevailed as the Bears took control in the seventh scoring four runs to walk it off 5-4. With the win Canton has won their third Class B title in a row.

“This has been an unbelievable run! Coach Brabaw and I can’t say enough regarding how proud we are of this group of girls”, stated the elated Coach Mike Wentworth following the game.
Emma Logan and Courtney Peters each walked to lead off the seventh inning and then Sydnee Francis doubled down the third base line to bring the Bears within one. Hadley Alguire tied the game by driving in Francis with her own double. With the game tied, senior Olivia Sero picked up the game winning RBI with a single which drove in Alguire, securing this teams’ legacy as champions!
Sydnee Francis and Hadley Alguire lead the way with their bats with two hits and one double each. “That was a wild one! When Emma and Courtney got on base to lead off the inning , I knew we had a chance. Renisa Richards kept us down for six innings but we finally timed her up in the seventh. That was a fun way to win”, exclaimed Wentworth.

On another note, congrats to Coach Caufield and the Varsity Baseball team and Coach Rob Brown and the Golf team! They won the school’s first Baseball sectional title and golf won their third consecutive title. I am happy for the entire program. Go Bears!”
The Bears will play the first round of the state tournament at home on Wednesday. They will play the winner of Saranac Central and Peru.
