11 Straight Runs Wins Game For Varsity Bears

In Gouverneur on Tuesday afternoon, April 25, Canton 13, Gouverneur 6

The Canton Girls Varsity Softball team traveled south down Route 11 to square off with the Gouverneur Wildcats. The Cats were leading in the game 6-2 until the Bears scored 11 unanswered runs and won the game 13-6.

Hadley Alguire started in the circle and pitched two innings, striking out 3. Ava Hoy earned the win pitching five innings, striking out 7 and not allowing a hit.

Freshman, Tessa Alguire led the way with the bat going 3 for 4 with a double and four RBI’s. Sydnee Francis also had two hits and a double, driving in four runs on the day.

“We started out sluggish both with the bats and the leather but we pulled it together in the fourth inning and started to play better. Tessa does not get cheated at the plate and today she was locked in. The Cats are a very good team with a lot of good athletes,” stated Coach Wentworth.
