On a cold Tuesday afternoon, April 17, in Massena: Canton 11, Massena 1

The Canton Varsity Softball team traveled to Massena on Tuesday afternoon and battled the Raiders on a cold windy day in Massena. Massena jumped out on top in the first inning scoring two runs on two walks and a couple wind aided hits. The Bears rallied though and came back to score 11 unanswered runs winning the game 11-2.

Ava Hoy had a big day with the bat going 3-3 with a double and 3 RBIs. Sydney Francis and Courtney Peters also had two hits and both scarfed four stolen bases. Tessa Alguire and Olivia Sero stroked RBI doubles to help break things open for the Bears.

Hadley Alguire and Ava Hoy both pitched well in the circle combining for 13 strikeouts in the game and only giving up two hits.

“We again pitched very well and our defense improved a lot from our first game,” said Coach Mike Wentworth. “Emma Logan made a great catch in centerfield at a key point in the game that gave us some confidence. It was cold and windy today so it was a tough day to hit so we had to manufacture a few runs to get us going.”
