Canton 64, Chatham 59

The Golden Bears knocked off the Chatham Panthers this Saturday in the Regional State Game to advance their first NYS Final Four since 2017. The final score of this game was 64-59 in favor of the Golden Bears.

This contest was played at Maxcy Hall, just a 10-minute drive for the Bears. And their fans took advantage of this opportunity, with them coming in droves to support their hometown team. As the first quarter went on both teams went back and forth, hitting shot after shot to keep the game close. Then as time expired in the first, Junior Guard Ryan Jones threw a heave of a shot up and drained it from deep in his defensive zone, Bears up six after one.

After a hard-fought battle in the second the gap between the teams stayed the same as the Bears were up six going into the break. Chatham got hot in the third quarter from deep, making four threes and gaining the lead at one point. But Canton battled back and regained the lead heading into the fourth. With multiple key shots from players in the fourth, whether it be a three-pointer or a free throw, every point mattered.

And as the buzzer sounded the Bears were filled with excitement as they were heading to the final four for the first time in six years. Canton will face Haldane in the Class C State Semi-Finals with a chance to make it to the state championship, tip off for this game will be at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, March 17 at Cool Insuring Arena in the Glenns Fall area.
