Potsdam 5, Canton 4
The Varsity Boys Hockey team faced off against the Potsdam Sandstoners in a highly anticipated matchup. The game was set to be played on Wednesday night in Pine Street Arena. Canton battled hard all night and gave it everything they had but unfortunately they fell just short of the win, losing the game with a final score of 5-4.
In the first two periods of play the Bears struggled on the offensive end, and the defensive to some extent. Canton let up a goal to the Sandstoners right off the bat, getting them in a bit of a jam to start the game. But for the remainder of the first Daniel Creurer stood strong in net and the defense held up.
Potsdam then netted two goals in the second and going into the third down 3-0 the Bears needed a miracle. Canton came out hot in the third, scoring in the first minute and cutting the deficit to two, goal scored by Jacob Rosales. But Potsdam shot right back and moved the lead back to three and the time seemed be dwindling away but another Canton goal scored by Grady Nee gave the Bears some life, and with the momentum they scored another, a Bradley Frank ripper that just slipped by the goalie and cut the lead to one.
Then with two minutes left in the game Josh Aldous scored the final goal of the Bears for the night, officially mounting the comeback and tying the game. The Canton student section lost erupted with the joy of the comeback. But this celebration was short lived as with 25 seconds left Tyler Berkman knifed through the Canton defense and scored the game winner to send Potsdam to Cheel.
