On Saturday the varsity Golden Bears football team won their homecoming and senior game versus Tupper Lake by a score of 38-24. The Bears took well to 8-man football and scored more than usual due to the open field. The Bears also honored their senior players in their last home game playing in the Golden Bear uniform.

This year the Bears had multiple seniors who have been through some tough moments in their high school career but decided to stick with it through the hard times and proved their character. Seniors for the Bears include Erich Zuhlsdorf, David Zuhlsdorf, Jacob McDougle, Marquise McFarren, Elias Snyder, James Bailey, Nick Button, and Nick Locy.

On Friday the Bears were led by senior captain James Bailey who scored 4 touchdowns in his debut at fullback for the Bears. Bailey had multiple 30+ yard runs while breaking many tackles. Defensively the Bears played well allowing very few points in the first half. A red zone interception by Charlie Todd also helped the Bears’ cause early in the game. After half the Bears led 12-0.

In the second half the Bears passed the ball more as the wind began to slow down. Sophomore quarterback Charlie Todd threw a pass late in the third quarter to Sophomore receiver Connor Clifford who caught the ball for a 70-yard touchdown, breaking tackles along his way to the end zone. Sophomore running back Josh Arraysian also had a fantastic catch in double coverage that brought the Bears into the Lumberjacks red zone where James Bailey scored his fourth touchdown of the afternoon, sealing the game for the Bears.

The Bears will play next away at Massena on Friday night at 7:00.
