Canton 1, Clifton-Fine 2

Following a loss on Monday the Bears looked to bounce back, but just fell short against the Eagles on Thursday night in the Houli Dome, losing two sets to one.

The Bears dropped the first set to the Eagles 25-20, but then bounced back in the second set to win 25-20. Behind solid efforts from players like Cecily Shipman with six points served and three aces and Piper McAllister with two kills, aces and assists and seven points served. But the Bears ultimately lost the third set and the game. After the match, Brown was looking at the glass half full.

“Another match that could have gone either way,” Brown commented, knowing that they are so close to a win, and they just need to get over a hump.

Canton 3, Sandstoners 0

After a tough week the Bears captured their first win of the week on a Friday night match against the Sandstoners in Potsdam on Sept. 16. The Bears won three sets to zero, a momentum grabbing win for the squad.

It was all Bears in this one, winning all matches by nine points or more. They set the tone for the game in the first set, winning 25-16 and never slowing down from that point on in the game, winning the second set 25-12 and finishing off the Sandstoners in the third set by winning 25-14. Coach Rob Brown was pleased with the performance of his team.

“We closed out the week with a much needed victory,” he said. “All those that played contributed positively to the win.”

The Bears look to keep this rolling as they head into an important week of their season.
