Bears XC Place Second in Three-Team Meet

On Tuesday, Sept. 13th was the Bears’ first scored meet of the season. They ran against Norwood-Norfolk and Potsdam on the Munter Trail behind Clarkson University. For the boys, the Flyers beat the Bears 21-34 (lower score wins), the Bears beat the Sandstoners 20-37, and the Flyers beat the Sandstoners 17-39. Because this was a smaller meet, it was scored as three smaller races, rather than one. For the girls, the Flyers beat the Bears 18-41. Because the Sandstoners only had one runner, they could not score.

In the boy’s 5k race, senior Lance Bradley from the Flyers placed first with a time of 18:59.20. Also for the Flyers, senior Anthony Fiaco placed second with 18:59.70 and junior Logan Bradley placed third with 19:43.00. In 10th place for the Bears was sophomore Rylan Lee-Powell with 21:22.00.

In the Girls 5k race for the Flyers, senior Sharon Colbert placed first with a time of 19:25.00, freshman Madison Carista placed second with 21:57.00, junior Rachel Hewey placed third with a 21:59.00, and freshman Allie Snell placed fourth with 22:01.00. Rounding out the top ten were Autumn Masuk who placed ninth with a 23:38.00 and freshman Brielle Gates who placed tenth with 23:49.00, both for the Flyers.

In both varsity races, Norwood dominated the top spots with Canton right behind them.

For the modified boy’s, seventh grader Basil Chesey from Canton placed first place by almost a minute in the 3k with a time of 11:56.00, followed by freshman James Richardson from Canton with a 12:48.00.

On the girl’s modified team, seventh grader Jillian Richardson placed eighth with a time of 15:46.00. The Bears will be running again in OFA on Tuesday the 20th, and an invitational in Utica on Saturday, Sept. 24.
