Canton’s Ryan Jones is nearing the end of a busy summer of golf, but continued his successful campaign by winning the club championship at St. Lawrence Golf & Country Club over the weekend.

Jones carded a first-day 79 followed by a second-day 74 to win the tournament by one stroke over Dick Christy. This was Jones’ third season playing in the men’s club championship, after moving up from the junior division. And for Jones, this win was special.

“It meant a lot because I’ve been playing there my whole life and ever since I was a kid I’ve pictured myself winning a club championship and it finally happened,” he said.

With just one more event remaining on Jones’ summer golf schedule — the club championship at Partridge Run Golf Course — the young golfer has much to remember from a season full of challenges. Jones said this season provided plenty of moments to learn from.

“During the men’s amateur just watching Division I players and watching what they have learned, like warmups and mini drills, it has made me a better golfer,” Jones said. “By watching their warmups and then putting them into my game, you can see how I’m improving which is great because I want to be like them in a couple years. I learned a lot mentally, I played with many great competitors and watching them make a big number on one hole then recover with birdies shows the real toughness in a player.”
