The Canton Bears Varsity Baseball team picked up two wins on Sunday, over OFA 9-3 and over Northeast Clinton 5-3. The Bears utilized Sam Roiger who pitched well against OFA and Daven Lafaver and Scott Ahlfeld to beat Northeast Clinton.
The Bears’ bats were in limbo on Sunday, but managed to hit when it counted. Canton led OFA after the third inning and extended their lead to nine by the fifth, but could not score any more to end the game early. OFA scored most of their runs later in the game, but Roiger kept them in check and got the Bears the win.
Game 2 started off slow for both teams, until a ball that went out of play gave Clinton two runs. The Bears struggled to gain any offensive momentum, but an error in the top of the sixth allowed Sam Roiger to get on. The Bears scored two on a double by David Zuhlsdorf. The Bears stranded 2, but held Clinton in the bottom.
The Bears’ bats were rolling, and Luke Wentworth doubled to add to Canton’s lead. Canton scored three in that inning, making the score 5-2. Clinton then loaded the bases, and Lafaver ran out of pitches, the May limit set at 125. Ahlfeld closed out the game with two strikeouts and a line drive to Sam Roiger to end the game. Canton plays Tuesday against Massena.
