The Canton Golden Bears Softball Team managed two solid victories over the weekend securing their lead on the Central Division with wins over perennial Class D leader Hammond and Class B rival Ogdensburg.

Canton 7  OFA 0  (Ike Noble Field)

The Canton Varsity Softball Team hosted the Ogdensburg Blue Devils on Saturday morning at Ike Noble Fields and came away with a 7-0 shutout.  The pitching duo of Hadley Alguire and Ava Hoy only allowed one hit in the game and stuck out 14 total batters.  “Hadley and Ava both pitched well today.  They got ahead in the count and changed speeds much better today.  When they both throw like that it is fun to watch.” stated coach Mike Wentworth.

   Leading the Bears with the bats was Sydnee Francis and Courtney Peters who both had two hits in the game.  Senior, Cate DeCoteau went 1-3 with a double.

   The Bears will be back on the Diamond on Monday when they travel to Massena to face the Red Raiders.  First pitch is scheduled for 4:30

Canton 10  Hammond 4 

The Canton Golden Bears Varsity Softball team hosted the Class D powerhouse Hammond Red Devils and came with a 10-4 win.  Junior, Hadley Alguire and Sophomore Ava Hoy combined for the unconventional No Hitter.  All the Hammond runs were scored on an error and walks.  Alguire struck out 8 and Hoy struck out 6 in the winning cause.  Offensively, the Bears were led by Hadley Alguire and Cate DeCoteau, both going 2-4.  DeCoteau, and Sydnee Francis both had RBI triples.  Lucy DeCoteau smoked a 2 run double.  “We are still knocking the rust off from the long lay off because of spring break but we are starting to swing the bats much better.” from Coach Mike Wentworth.
