The Canton Blades 14U Tier II team is heading to West Chester, PA from March 31 to April 4 to compete in the USA Hockey National Championships. The Blades received a bid to the National Tournament after falling 4-3 to the Brewster Bulldogs in a hard-fought Championship game at the New York State Tournament. 

New York State Championship Weekend Recap

The Blades went 2-1-0 in round robin play to advance to the semifinals of the State Tournament on the morning of March 6. The Blades faced off against a tough, skilled Adirondack 46ers team for an early morning match-up to determine who would move onto the Championship game later that afternoon.

The Blades would strike first at 12:03 of the first period with an unassisted goal by Joie-Lynn Jabaut. The Adirondack 46ers would answer at 7:10 of the second period with a goal by Amaya Abellard, assisted by Rowen Wood. The second period would end with the score tied at 1 each. 

After the ice cut the Blades came out on fire, applying a lot of offensive pressure and outshooting the 46ers for the first time all game. With .11 seconds left in the third period, Madelynn Southwick would find the back of the net for a power play goal, assisted by Taylor Stoll. This would seal the win for the Blades and secure their spot in the Championship game.

The Blades faced off against the Brewster Bulldogs for the Championship game in the afternoon. The Bulldogs would strike first at 11:31 of the first period with a goal by Kayla Magier, assisted by Katelyn Gelfand. The Blades would answer with 1:55 left in the first period when Joie-Lynn Jabaut buried the puck, unassisted. 

The Bulldogs would dominate the scoreboard during the second period with three goals. The Blades would tally one goal when Brynn Deshaies found the back of the net, assisted by Anna Hoose and Abby Nee. After the ice cut the Blades turned on the offensive pressure, outshooting the Bulldogs 10-2 in the third period. With 1:38 left in the third, Madelynn Southwick would score a power play goal assisted by Ella Mousaw. Unfortunately, the Blades would run out of time and the Bulldogs would win the Championship 4-3. 

About the Team

The Canton Blades team is made up of 17 athletes from the North Country region including Canton, Colton, Lisbon, Massena, Norfolk, Ogdensburg, Parishville and Tupper Lake. They are coached by Mandie Mousaw (HC), Joe Mousaw (AC), Brian Henning (AC), Jon Hoose (AC) and Troy Creurer (AC).

Thanks to all of our supporters who have donated to help us get to Nationals! The Blades will be hitting the road Thursday morning (3/31) on a chartered bus leaving from Clarkson University. The team looks forward to representing the North Country at the National level!
