On Senior Night: Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Canton, in the Jerry Hourihan Gymnasium
Canton 54, Salmon River 18
In a rowdy house, with a student section rivaling the ghosts of past seasons with their school spirit, the Golden Bears Boys Varsity Basketball Team was able to solidify themselves among the most successful teams in the history of Canton Basketball. The 54 to 18 win secured their undefeated status in the Central Division finishing with a perfect 12-0 record. Not since the early 1960’s has a Canton boys team accomplished this notable achievement. This accomplishment is particularly impressive as the team dodged Covid-19 quarantines and the loss of key players during games along the way.
Prior to the game the Senior members of the team were recognized along with their parents. Photos below:

Leading the way for the Bears on Senior Night was a balanced attack, once again featuring the veteran Bears. Chris Downs and Sam Roiger lead the way with 10 points each. Daniel “Doc” Rosser contributed 7, Jonah Longshore with 6 and Cooper Ladouceur and Zack VanBrocklin each scoring 3.
The most impressive part of the evening was the team defense displayed by the Bears. The number of deflected passes, steals and grabbed loose balls held the visiting Shamrocks to 6 points in the first half and 18 points on the evening. Defense will continue to be a key for the Bears as they head into the postseason.
The team finishes on the road this coming Monday as they travel to Indian River in their final non-league match-up of the season. Tip-off is slated for 7:15.
