Canton 41 Gouverneur 35 , On Thursday evening in Gouverneur
On Thursday night the Canton Girls JV basketball team traveled south on Route 11 to face the always tough Gouverneur Wildcats with only six players because of health issues. The Cats went into the night having not lost a league game in two and a half years.
“That’s why you play the game! It’s always fun to see who steps up when you are missing players. Tonight we were without four key players that usually play a lot of minutes for us. The six girls that made the trip didn’t leave anything on the court in Gouverneur and they battled for all thirty two minutes. I am proud of them and that will be a game that I will always remember,” stated coach Mike Wentworth.
The young Bears finished the game with a 41-35 victory and were led in score by sharp shooting eighth grader Olivia White who tickled the twin for 22 points, 8 for 9 from the free throw line. Also scoring was the “Floor General” Vivian Coburn (10 points), Olivia Francey (6 points), Jenna Larrabee and Salma “Mo” Moumen (2 Points)
The Bears will take their six women show on the road to Indian River next Tuesday. Tip Off is scheduled for 5:30
The Varsity Girls lost to Gouverneur 40-48 on Thursday. Ava Hoy led the team in scoring with 11 points followed by Camryn Sipher (8 points)
