Girls JV Basketball Downs Saranac Central

Canton 31  Saranac  25
The Canton Girls JV Basketball team traveled to Saranac Lake to play Saranac Central at North Country Community college on Thursday afternoon.  The young Bears took a while to shake off the bus legs going into the game and were down 7-5 going into the half.

The second half was a different story as they pulled ahead and went on to win by the score of 31-25.  Leading Canton in scoring was eighth grader Olivia White who dumped in 13. Also scoring were Winnie Downs (7 points), Olivia Francy (4 points), Vivian Coburn and Tessa Alguire (3 points) and Sara Aldous (1 point).

“This is a fun team to coach and I bet they are very exciting to watch from the stands,” said Coach Mike Wentworth. “We got off the bus cold and struggled to put the ball in the hoop the first half but they settled down and played a great second half.”

The Bears will be back in action on Thursday as they will be on the road playing the Gouverneur Wildcats.  Game time is scheduled for 5:30.

The Varsity girls lost 62-54. Ava Hoy led the Bears with 24 points followed by older sister Maddie who had 17 points. Freshman Callie Clawson also netted 13 points on the day.
