Varsity volleyball is having a phenomenal run. The Bears were in Malone Tuesday evening to face the Franklin Academy Huskies and despite a valiant effort by the opposing team, Canton’s perfect season continues. The Bears won three straight sets, 25-15, 25-21 and 25-23 to give them a 10-0 record.
The Huskies came into the game as the only other unbeaten team. They were a strong team who kept the Bears on their toes every match making for some exciting volleyball. Franklin Academy’s few leads never lasted long though and they could never gain the momentum to hold Canton back. Canton’s strong defense and their hitting army was a force not to be reckoned with.
The Bears hitters Ava Hoy and Katie Bennett delivered 11 kills and 4 aces each. Bennett also contributed 5 digs and 9 serving points. Setter Mattigan Porter handed out 24 assists and 2 aces and served 11 points for the team. Front row hitter Julianna Richardson supplied 4 kills and served up 4 points.
Winning against the only other unbeaten team will surely only add to the team’s desire to give it their all as they head into the last few weeks of their season.
Whatever happens moving forward, the Bears can enjoy the ride knowing they are playing volleyball with a team committed to each and every play.
The Bears are on the road again next week on Tuesday when they play Massena. The game has a 6 pm start time.
