Modified Football Tops Malone at Home

The Boys In the “Trenches” carry the Canton Golden Bears Modified football team to their first win of the season! Offensive and Defensive lineman Ayden Ashlaw, Blake Woods, Nate Berkman, Noah Friot, Ryan Mitchell, Parker Hurlbut, Thomas O’Brien, and Brendan Deshane dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball Thursday evening at home.

Ian Thrasher broke tackles to find the end zone first for the Golden Bears. Daniel Richardson would secure the extra point and score the next touchdown to put the Bears up 14-0 at the end of the third quarter.

Richardson would sprint for over 150 yards leading the team in rushing yards. Quarterback, Daniel O’Neil shared the love on offense connecting to many different Bears for multiple first downs. O’Neil threw for 70 yards and went 8/10 on the day. Ryan Faunce, Owen Clifford, and Ben Kenna contributed on offense by breaking tackles to get a Golden Bear first down.

On defense: Richardson, Thrasher, Faunce and Clifford led the Bears in tackles. Gabriel Kellogg snags two interceptions for the Golden Bears defense as they hold the Malone Huskies to 6 points.

“This was a great team win, Coach Grant and I preach ‘everyday a little bit better’ and the amount of progress and heart these boys are showing every day is great to see,” said Coach Dobbs. “We appreciate the love and support from the parents and the varsity and JV coaching staff. We look forward to traveling to St. Lawrence Central next Thursday.”

“The boys have been grinding the last two weeks and you can tell that they’ve put in the work. I’m proud to see these boys grow from week 1 to this week,” added Coach Grant. “They earned this win. If we keep this progress were going to have a really good team on our hands”

Final Score: 14-6
