The Canton Golden Bears move on to the championship game after a convincing 12-1 victory at home over the St. Lawrence Central Larries.

The Bears got off to a hot start Monday,  scoring seven unanswered goals in the first quarter. Aiden Hoose got the ball rolling for the bears, netting the first goal and setting the tempo for the contest. Moments later Colin Taylor tallied one of his own on an outside shot just over the shoulder of the opposing goaltender.

While the offense was in motion, the Bears defense was stout from start to finish. The long pole group of Pete Coakley, Rhett Palmer, Sky Kennedy and Parker Hunt were able to stifle their matchups, force turnovers, win ground ball battles and clear the ball effectively.  Goaltender Hayden Todd was up to the task as well, recording 11 saves and using his feet and stick in the clear game.

It was also a career day for junior attackman Daniel Mahoney, who paced the offense on his way to eight points.  Mahoney was able to get the best of his matchup at every turn, finishing off his own dodges and setting up his teammates. Senior midfielder Trey Bessette was also able to find success on and off the scoreboard. Bessette recorded a game high eight ground balls and was essential to the Bears success by pushing the pace and forcing many fast break opportunities. Even with great individual play, it was a complete team effort for the Bears, who played effectively  on both offense and defense.

The Golden Bears move on to the Section X championship game and await the winner of Salmon River and Massena which was postponed due to lightning. The championship is scheduled for Thursday at 7:30 at Massena High School, immediately following the Girls championship at 5 p.m.  A game which also includes the Golden Bears as they move on after a victory over Massena 11-5.
