Canton 16 Gouverneur 4
Friday night at Ike Noble Field the Canton Golden Bears won their first Class “B” title since 2013 by beating the Gouverneur Wildcats by the score of 16-4.
The Cats got on the board first by scoring a run in the first inning on an RBI double from Lia Canell but Canton answered in the bottom of the frame by putting up a six spot and added another four in the second to give them all they needed to secure the Class “B” title. Hadley Alguire picked up the win pitching five innings and striking out 4. Ava Hoy pitched the last two innings striking out 4.
Offensively, Lexis Hiatt, Sydnee Francis, Alguire, Natalie Warner, Lucy DeCoteau and Brooke Larrabee all had two hits in the balanced Bears attack. Larrabee and Alguire drove in 5 and 4 runs to spark the Bears. “This is a great group of girls and parents to work with. They all just seem like they love to play the game and that shows in the way they carry themselves on the field. Today we played great outfield defense which picked us up in a couple tough situations early.”
The Bears will be back in action on Tuesday in the first round of the overall section X tournament. The location and opponent will be decided on Saturday.
