The Canton Golden Bears (3-5) Baseball Team faced an uphill battle from the onset of Wednesday afternoon’s Central Division contest as they faced the league leading Gouverneur Wildcats (7-1). The defense for the Bears allowed 1 earned run and 12 unearned on the day allowing the visitors to set the tone early. The Wildcats Jared Wilson led his teams’ effort with the bat hitting an impressive three homeruns which tallied eight total RBI’s.

Canton, facing the loss of some key players due to Covid-19 quarantine, did manage to see hits from Tanner Hazelton, Luke Wentworth and Lane Rayburn but their individual efforts could not translate to runs. Hazelton had 6 strikeouts in the game and Scott Ahlfeld in relief at pitcher struck out one.

The Bears will look to regroup this Friday at home as they face the Potsdam Sandstoners at 11:00 am on their home field. In the first game this season, the Bears managed to defeat the Stoners by a score of 21-10. If Friday’s game is anything like the first, the defense for each team will need to be the difference!
