The Canton Golden Bears came to play this past Saturday morning and beat Salmon River 8-7.
Eric Zuhlsdorf started on the mound for the Bears and pitched a solid 5.1 innings. He allowed two earned runs and struck out 10, with 5 walks and only one hit against him. Tanner Hazelton pitched 1.2 and pitched the Bears out of a jam with the bases loaded. He had 3 strikeouts, a walk, and a hit against him.
The Bears trailed early as Salmon scored two in the first inning and one in the fourth inning. The Bears Tanner Hazleton scored after reaching on a single on an error by the Malone defense. Down 3-1, two passed balls with the bases loaded contributed to 2 of the three runs scored in the top of the sixth inning. Tanner Hazelton came in to pitch after Eric Zuhlsdorf hit his pitch count limit. Canton came back in the bottom of the sixth inning with two runs to make it 7 to 3.
The Bears defense looks much better than the last few games, with only 3 errors minimizing the extra outs. Down by 4 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Sam Roiger led off with a single to center field. Scotty Ahlfeld reached on an error by the second baseman. David Zuhlsdorf batted in Roiger with a single. Colby Young doubled and got an RBI. Eric Zuhlsdorf singled. Lane Rayburn was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A passed ball allowed Colby Young to score and tie the game at 7. Nate “the clutch” Romano sacrificed his at-bat with a hit to center field allowing the speedy Eric Zuhlsdorf to score from third to win the game.
An all around effort at the plate, the Bears win their second game in a row and look to carry their success into their game against Ogdensburg on Monday.
