Canton  6   Malone  2

On Thursday the Golden Bears traveled to Franklin Academy to face off with the undefeated Malone Huskies. The Varsity Bears came away with a 6-2 victory over Malone. (Cover: Hadley Alguire delivers the strike!)

The Golden Bears prevailed over a 14-strikeout six hitter by Malone pitcher Ryleigh McCauley behind Hadley Alguire who struck out five in a seven-hitter. “Hadley was not scheduled to pitch today but when starting pitcher Emily Wentworth injured herself in the first inning she had to shift gears and step in the circle. She did a great job against a very good softball team.” stated Coach Mike Wentworth

Larrabee with the throw to first!

McCauley also hit a two-run homerun in the fifth inning of the game where the Bears received two singles from Natalie Warner and other timely singles from Brooke Larrabee, Emily Wentworth, Cate DeCoteau and Hadley Alguire who scored three times.

Warner with another timely single for the Bears!

“Our base running and solid defense won that game. McCauley was tough on the mound so we had to really create some runs. Our infield defense was outstanding today, those girls were real “Gamers” and I love it. Malone put the ball in play and our girls showed what kind of athletes they are. Sydnee Francis and Lexis Huiatt were outstanding up the middle today.”

Alayna Dumas singled twice for Malone and Dumas, Bonville and Perras all added one hit. The Bears will be in action again on Monday as they will travel to OFA to face the always tough Blue Devils. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00pm

JV Score:  Malone 7  Canton  6

Courtney Peters pitched 7 innings with 9 strikeouts.  Lucy DeCoteau 3-3 with a walk.
