On a wet sloppy day in Canton, Bears pitchers Emily Wentworth and Hadey Alguire continued to make key contributions on the mound and at the plate as the Golden Bears downed Heuvelton 9-2 in the first game of a doubleheader on Tuesday. The second game was suspended by rain with Heuvelton leading 2-1 after one inning and will be resumed in Heuvelton on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Wentworth pitched the first three innings to get the victory and Alguire picked up the save allowing just one hit pitching three scoreless innings and also rapped a three-run double in a five-run second inning. Wentworth tripled and singled in the Canton offense which also included two singles by Cate DeCoteau, two singles and three runs scored by Lexi Huiatt and singles by Brooke Larrabee and Megan Davis. “The top of our order has been tough early on and when they get on base good things happen. We made some nice improvements from our last game. As a team we need to improve running the bases but at the same time I love our aggressiveness.” stated Head Coach Mike Wentworth.

DaKota West belted an RBI triple and scored a run for Heuvelton and the Bulldogs’ starting pitcher Chasity Johnson doubled and scored. Ali Trathen, Amber Cunningham and Carley Simmons all singled.
Canton’s doubleheader scheduled with Hermon-DeKalb today has been postponed until the 23rd of May due to rain. First pitch to be thrown at 1:00 pm.
