Claira Royce, daughter of Kira and Philip Royce, recently committed to run Cross Country and Track and Field at Gettysburg College. Claira has competed in both Cross Country and Track and Field for Canton Central School since the 7th grade. She has been a standout member of the varsity team and part of the top three on the cross-country team since the 8th grade. In addition, she was part of the team that placed 2nd at the 2016 NYSPHSAA Class C Cross Country Championships. Despite managing a significant injury during her senior season, Claira has qualified multiple times for the State Championships in cross-country, indoor, and outdoor track and field.
Girls Spring Track Coach Bill Porter commented, “Claira is an outstanding young lady who excels in the classroom, has an intrinsic desire to achieve and an equally strong work ethic. She has been a pleasure to coach. I believe that Claira’s best running days ahead of her. Her teammates and I wish her the very best!”
Claira also helped propel the team to four Cross-Country Section X Championships, four Indoor Section X Championships, and two first place Burnt Hills Invitationals. In addition to committing to run cross country and track and field at Gettysburg College, she intends to major in psychology.
