With a win against Potsdam at home, the Canton girls varsity basketball team advances to the Section X championship game next week. The final score of 71-34, Canton came into the game ready to work hard and show off their improvements in the areas of defense and shooting. This team’s passion showed through on the court as they looked energized and excited to be playing in the Houli Dome one last time all together.

At the end of the first quarter, Canton was out to a 21-2 lead and never looked back. Their focus and improvements on the defensive end of the floor were obvious as this was a source for the offensive prosperity in the game. The Golden Bears were struggling to make outside shots over their past few games, yet with increased shooting practice the shots began to fall on Friday night. Sarah Sieminski made six, three pointers, and Katie Chisholm had four. This ability to shoot was a source of increased confidence in the offense as Canton looks to their biggest game of season thus far.

To score of the Golden Bears, Sieminski lead the team 24 points, Chisholm was not far behind with 18, and Lexi Huiatt scored eight points. Big girls, Maddie Hoy and Emily Wentworth scored six and four while battling under the net for rebounds along with Gretchen Warner. Canton was pleased with their performance and are excited to continue improving in the upcoming week of practice. They are preparing to play for their eighth straight Section X title. The Canton Girls Varsity Basketball team will play Ogdensburg Free Academy for the Sectional title Thursday at 6 P.M. Come support the energetic and fast-paced play of the Golden Bears at Maxi Hall in Potsdam and stay to watch the Canton Boys Varsity Basketball play after. Go Bears!
