Girls’ basketball looks forward to exciting season

After a trip to the New York State Final Four last season, the varsity girls’ basketball team is looking forward to another exciting season. The team lost only three members of their previous group and have their core contributors back again for a final season. The 13-member squad has been playing together since fifth grade and their long-time coaches have been at the head of the bench for that long too. Coaches Jim DiSalvo and Randy Sieminski are going into their fourth season as varsity coaches together along with their countless games of experience coaching this team throughout the years.

Through the first two weeks of practice, the team is excited and energetic about the upcoming season. They hope to continue a fast-paced and athletic style of play while emphasizing defense.

Senior Captain Sarah Sieminski said, “I’m really looking forward to the season, we had a great year last year making it to the final four. Many of those players are returning and I’m hopeful that we will have another successful year.”

Sieminski and her teammates have already shown their enthusiasm about the season through high-energy practices and encouraging performances at the team’s two scrimmages. These two scrimmages were a chance for the team to try some different lineups and practice their new plays. They hope to build off of these performances and continue increasing their level of play. The team has their season opener at home on Dec. 5 at 7:15 p.m. against Massena. Go Bears! (the team roster is as follows)

Here’s a look at the team roster:

Seniors: Katie Chisholm, Abby Dent, Jillian DiSalvo, Sophie Ladouceur, Sarah Sieminski, Gretchen Warner, and Kelsea Whittier

Juniors: Hailee Duvall, Lexi Huiatt, Hannah Reed, Esther Shipman, and Emily Wentworth

Sophomore: Maddy Hoy
