JV Football Finishes Season With Win

The JV football team beat Massena 14-8 to cap off their 2019 season.

Canton came out hot on defense, as did Massena, and both teams continued their impressive defensive performances throughout the first half. Neither teams could crack the code on offense, and the game stayed 0-0 going into half time.

The Bears struck first late in the third quarter when sophomore quarterback Daniel Mahoney connected with sophomore tight end Jonah Longshore on a 46 yard TD pass on a fourth down and 10. The Bears then cashed in on their two point try to make the game 8-0.

Massena wouldn’t answer until late in the fourth quarter, when they connected on a long TD pass and then cashed in on their two point conversion.

The Bears would get the ball back with about three minutes left, and they got off to a hot start when sophomore wide receiver Lane Rayburn returned the kickoff all the way to the 50 yard line. The Bears then systematically marched down the field with both passes and runs. The Bears run game was anchored by sophomore running back Collin Parmeter, and some terrific offensive line play.

The Bears marched all the way to Massena’s four yard line. With just six seconds left on the clock the game would come down to one final play. On the final play, Mahoney connected with Rayburn for the TD which would send the Bears on to a 14-8 victory.

As the JV season concludes, some players will be moving up to help the varsity team take on Watertown next Friday in the Section X Championship.
