On Tuesday Canton dominated the Gouverneur Wild Cats in the pool. This home meet was particularly special, in that is was Canton’s Senior meet. Seniors, Bella Jaskowski, Sarah Bailey, Julia Domena, and Jayden Burcume were thanked for their contribution to the Caton Swim team. These swimmers will certainly be missed in the years to come. On Tuesday Canton took yet another victory, this time against Gouverneur, with a win of 113-55.
Seniors, Domena and Jaskowski have been impacting the swim team for a total of six years, and they demonstrated what they are capable of yet again against the wild cats. They both competed in two relays and two individual events. They both took a first and second-place finish in their individual races. Jaskowski took first in the 100 Backstroke with a time 1:07.34 and also finished second in the 200 IM with a time 2:34.56. Domena captured first in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:19.72 and took second in the 100 Freestyle with a 56.76.
Canton’s relay teams won two out of three events. Jaskowski, Domena, Maya Thomas, and Emily Wentworth took first in the 200 Medley Relay with their time of 2:03.66. Behind them was Emma Berg, Mia Mousaw, Carmen Mussen, Lexi Stuntz who finished second with a time of 2:25.31. Domena, Grace O’Neill, Brooke Larrabee, and Wentworth also took first in the 200 Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:51.25. Mousaw, Emily Ames, Skylar Sanderson, and Dharma Crabtree finished third in this race as well.
Canton also dominated in Individual Races. Grace O’Neill took first in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 6:06.55 and also contributed a second-place finish in the 200 Freestyle. Olivia Logan also contributed a second-place finish in the 500 Freestyle, just behind her was Dharma Crabtree. Brooke Larrabee took third in the 200 Freestyle too. Emily Wentworth contributed two first-place finishes. Wentworth finished first in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 24.90 and also took the victory in the 100 Freestyle with a 55.62.
Freshman, Carmen Mussen finished first in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:20.50, right behind her was Kayla Larrabee who finished second. Also a Freshman, Emma Berg took third in the 100 Backstroke and seventh-grader, Lexi Stuntz took third in the 100 Breaststroke. Skylar Sanderson, also a seventh-grader contributed a third-place finish in the 200 IM.
This meet against Gouverneur was the Canton Lady Bear Swimmers’ final meet of the season. Because they were saying goodbye to the seniors, it was also a very sad one. However, the Bears are not finished in the pool just yet. Although they finished their regular season, the Bears will still compete at sectionals and have the chance to extend their winning streak to 104. Cheer on the Canton Swimmers as they compete against the other schools of the section at the Sectional Championships November 3rd at 1:00 pm in the SUNY Potsdam pool.
