The Canton girl’s modified volleyball team won their third straight on Thursday beating Madrid-Waddington 2-1.

The Bears got off to a strong start in the first set jumping out to a 16-0 lead thanks to 16 straight serves, including seven aces from Katie Metcalf.  Laurel Whittier notched two kills as the lead was 20-4 a short time later.  The Bears went on to win the set 25-6.

In the second set, Emma Logan helped Canton stretch a 7-5 lead to 13-5 with six straight serves.  The Bears then opened an 18-10 lead following a kill from Whittier.  Metcalf added another ace, and Josie Gabriel nailed a pair of kills, including on set point as the Bears won 25-11.

The Yellowjackets opened a 7-3 lead in the third set.  Vanessa Mousaw served four straight times to tie the set.  Zoey Mattice had two terrific digs on the tying point.  Madrid-Waddington countered scoring the next four points.  They would extend the margin to 19-11.  But the Bears kept fighting and pulled within six points, 21-15 after a nice return over the net from Paige Blackmer.  The Yellowjackets went on to win 25-16.

The Bears are next in action on Monday, October 21 when they travel to Gouverneur.
