The Canton girl’s modified volleyball team beat the Clifton-Fine Eagles on Tuesday night two sets to one, winning 25-18, 25-6, 17-25 for their second straight win.
The first set opened point for point with some great volleys. The Bears were down 6-3 until Josie Gabriel served 3 points (2 aces) to tie it up. Kyleigh Gollinger then took over and served 7 points (4 aces) to lift the Bears to 15-8. The Eagles battled back to 16-12 before Emma Logan served 6 points. Katie Metcalf had a nice kill to preserve Logan’s serve. Zoey Mattice helped by serving an ace and the Bears won the first set 25-18.
The second set was dominated by strong serving by the Bears. Gabriel opened the set by serving 8 points (6 aces), followed by Metcalf serving 3 aces to bring the Bears up 12-2. Logan and Gollinger helped serve points before Laurel Whittier served out the set with 6 points (2 aces) for a 25-6 win.
The third set was a battle with all players represented. The Eagles were led by strong serving. At one point Vanessa Mousaw served 4 points to tie the match at 11 all and Mattice contributed 2 aces to bring the score to 17-16. The Eagles went on to win 25-17.
